Why do you attend conference every year?

I am not personally attending this year as my priority was for more staff from Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA) to attend. For the organisation, attendance assists with getting buy-in from staff, particularly core users. It enables them to see additional functionality that either already exists or may be coming soon to assist them to utilise the software more to further support them in their role.

How do you approach registration (i.e. selecting who will attend)?

Partly we want to create 'Ungerboeck Champions'. Selected attendees are people who have core knowledge of the system and/or internal processes and I try to ensure every business unit has someone attending as long as there is sufficient reasons to justify their time spent as well as ensuring that they will come back with a positive experience. The business goal is to ensure that Ungerboeck remains the core of the MCA for eternity and to do this it must be used and driven by all staff for as much of their job as is feasible.

How do you disseminate that information back to your organisation?

Nothing formal. I have individually spoken to attendees to see what they got out of it and what they can apply. One of our attendees last year has become a power user as she can see the benefits for her division and is now driving their usage. This year she is also now attending the system administration (Training Academy) course as a result to empower her further.
